Sun City

Sun City, Arizona is a one-of-a-kind retirement community that is great place to visit, relax, have fun, and retire. An adult community where everyone is invited to be as active as he or she wishes, Sun City is located just west of Phoenix in the heart of the Northwest Valley.

Home to eight golf courses, three country clubs, two bowling centers, Sun Bowl, and Viewpoint Lake, Sun City boasts the largest concentration of year-round recreational facilities in the United States. The city’s Recreation Centers of Sun City, Inc. (RCSC) oversee Sun City recreation facilities, including Miniature Golf, Boating and Fishing, Billiards and Pool, Swimming and Hot Tubs, Lawn Bowling, Shuffle Board, Ping Pong, Racquet and Hand Ball, Basketball, Soft Ball, and other activities, along with over 130 Chartered Clubs operating under the RCSC umbrella.

There is also plenty to do in the Phoenix-Tucson area, all within just a few minutes of Sun City. Sports fans are sure find their niche with Cactus League Major League Baseball, The Arizona Cardinals NFL Team, and the Phoenix Coyotes NHL Team all within six miles of Sun City. The Challenger Space Center and Wildlife World Zoo are also only a stone’s throw from our clean and friendly community.

A top outdoor attraction is the breathtaking White Tank Mountains and their accompanying regional park. Nearly 30,000 acres makes this the largest regional park in Maricopa County. The range, deeply serrated with ridges and canyons, rises sharply from its base to peak at over 4,000 feet. Infrequent heavy rains cause flash floodwaters to plunge through the canyons and pour onto the plain. These torrential flows, pouring down chutes and dropping off ledges, have scoured out a series of depressions, or tanks, in the white granite rock below, thus giving the mountains their name.

No matter the time of year, the Phoenix-Tucson area is practically always busy with seasonal events, festivals and activities—many of which have garnered international attention. La Fiesta de los Vaqueros is the largest outdoor mid-winter rodeo in America and the Tucson International Mariachi Conference attractions many fans and followers of the musical genre every year. Another popular event is the Tucson Gem Show, an event catering to thousands of collectors and spectators every February that has grown to be the largest show of its kind in the world.

There are also plenty of great day-trip opportunities to embark on, whether on one’s own or with a tour group. Leave the hustle and bustle to visit a Western-themed town; shop, go wine tasting and stop in at a rustic café for lunch; take a trek into the desert to spot wildlife or go birding; enjoy a peaceful day at the golf course; or find yourself on an exhilarating mountain bike ride. When you’re in Sun City, the possibilities for fun and relaxation are endless.

Sun City

Sun City and the surrounding Phoenix area offer a colorful array of adventures, whether traveling by car, RV, motorcycle, or bicycle.  And when you’re ready to settle in for a delicious authentic ethnic or traditional meal, the options are boundless. Factor in the warm weather and low rainfall and you’ve got the ultimate recipe for planning a fault-free golf vacation. Sun City and the West valley are home to many celebrated golf courses with scenic vistas of rugged mountains, desert flora and bright blue skies. Any handicaps for this game will be the ones you might bring along.

Explore

For the hidden explorer in every visitor, plan a side trip to the illustrious Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and Biosphere2 (both near Tucson) and the Superstition Moutina and Wilderness Area in the East valley.  Thousands regularly search the Lost Dutchman’s goldmine hoping to strike it rich. Bring a canteen and a cloth bag to hunt for other treasures such as the openly exposed arrowheads and pottery remnants left by ancient Indian tribes. Or if you’re the sort of explorer who craves more we encourage you to visit the Red Rocks of Sedona.  Just a couple hours north of Sun City on Interstate 17,  you’ll enjoy abundant shopping, photo opportunities and views rare in this country.
