Daytona Beach

Alternating between secluded and busy stretches of sand, some of which you can still drive automobiles on, the Daytona Beach area offers plenty of family-style recreation and attractions as well as world-famous annual events.

The beach itself has an ocean park atmosphere, with vendors offering everything from hot dogs to motorbike rentals. Ormond Beach, at the area's northern tip, was once a playground for America's early millionaires including John D. Rockefeller. Known as the "Birthplace of Speed," the city played host to Florida's first auto races on its hard-packed sand. Many visitors to the area like to escape to the relaxing sands of New Smyrna Beach.

Daytona's 13 miles of pristine beaches are a popular stopping place for families with small children. The town's quiet charm, historic architecture and water views have earned it praise as the "Old Florida." Inland, DeLand features a thriving downtown that was honored with a national Main Street award. Visitors can stroll along a charming row of quaint shops, boutiques and cafes.

Nearby, three state parks and a national wildlife refuge offer nature encounters. De Land is also home to the most active drop zone in the world for skydivers.

If you dream of riding the waves, Daytona Beach is the right place. The smooth sand and Atlantic surf combine to make this one of the premier surfing spots on the East Coast. In addition to surfing, you'll find a host of water activities including jet skiing, windsurfing, boating and parasailing. For a more tranquil outing, take one of the leisurely boat rides available in the area. The Atlantic Ocean and Halifax River provide anglers a variety of fishing opportunities year-round.

As the closest beach to Central Florida's well-known tourist attractions, New Smyrna visitors exchange long lines and high prices for 13.2 miles of white, sandy beach. Known as the "World's Safest Bathing Beach" and "Redfish Capital of the World," New Smyrna Beach is an ideal Florida vacation destination.
