Sierra Nevada Lake Tahoe
 Lake Tahoe is a rare place - a dreamland filled with excitement where rugged mountains kiss glassy waters and reach up to caress the azure sky. Sound like a fantasy? Lake Tahoe is real, and easily accessible.
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is just half an hour from North Shore and about an hour to South Shore. Rental cars are easy to find, and the Tahoe Casino Express and Tahoe Tours offer comfortable, affordable shuttles from the airport to Lake Tahoe. Private aircraft can land at the Lake Tahoe Airport or Tahoe-Truckee Airport.
U.S. Highway 50 brings drivers from Sacramento and through the American River Canyon to reach South Lake Tahoe. Interstate 80 skirts the north edge of the Lake Tahoe Basin at Donner Summit and through Reno with several connecting highways to the west and north shores.
What to do in paradise? Just about anything and everything. In winter you'll find all manner of snowsports. Fifteen ski and snowboard resorts ring the lake. There are hills for sledding almost everywhere and numerous companies offer snowmobile treks into the backcountry. To enjoy the quieter side of a winter day, there's nothing like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Just step out the door, strap on equipment and head out.
The summer sun smiles on Lake Tahoe with a special brilliance. Crystal waters lap upon miles and miles of public beaches fit for swimming, sunbathing or building sand castles. Extensive trails wander hither and yon for foot, hoof and tire. Completed in 2001, the Tahoe Rim Trail is the ultimate of the Tahoe trails. While the hearty can circle the entire lake on foot, there are shorter segments for those with less time or stamina.
